Claton County Register, 19 Feb. 1936.

FARMERSBURG: Eldo Fred Henry Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walter, was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa. As an infant he was brought to God in baptism.

Eldo has always made his home here in Farmersburg. As he grew to young manhood he worked as a mechanic in Farmersburg and also for a time with the Nolon Construction company. As a resident of Farmersburg he served ably and fearlessly on the fire department, winning the praise and honor of his associates.

About a year ago he first began to experience trouble with his hip, causing him to leave his work. On July 19, 1935, he was taken to the hospital at Iowa City, where he underwent an operation with the hope that this might end his trouble. From the first operation until the time of his death he spent his time, some at the hospital and some in the home of his mother, where he was served with untiring care by his mother and also by his devoted friend, Miss Mary Reardon. Their time was his time, and their efforts were bent to do for him what they could and to assist him in every way possible.

In October of the past year the doctors pronounced his case a cancer. After months of patient suffering his death came Feb. 07, 1936, at six o'clock in the evening.

He reached the age of 25 years, four months and 16 days. He leaves to mourn: his mother, Mrs. Alma Walter; his fiancee, Miss Mary Reardon; his brother, Alvin, and his father, Mr. Frank Walter; a grandmother, Mrs. Fred Kurth; and a grandfather, Mr. Henry Walter. Two sisters preceded him in early infancy.
