Clayton County Register, 29 Jan. 1936. Garnavillo column.

This community was grieved to learn of the death of Mr. William Moellering, a pioneer resident of this section, Death came suddenly Friday noon.

Friedrich William Moellering was born in Garnavillo township June 27th, 1852, and was a member of a family of six children born to John Henry and Anna Margaret Moellering. He died at the place of his birth, January 17, 1936, at the age of 83 years, six months and 21 days.

He was united in marriage with Elise Meyer, Dec. 30, 18__. Six children were born to this union, three of whom preceded their father in death: Nora, age 16 years; Urban, at age six months; Mrs. Margaret Wirkler, who passed away January 9th of last year.

Mr. Moellering leaves his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Schroeder; two sons, Arthur W. and Roland H.; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Mahning, Le Mars, Iowa, and seven grandchildren, together with a large relationship and a host of friends.

He was baptized at St. Paul's church Sept. 2, 1853, and was confirmed there April 14, 1867. He followed closely in the footsteps and example of his father in church work, in piety and religious fervor. It is of great interest to note that his father was one of the organizers of this congregation and drew the plans for its first building, as well as those for St. Paul's church at Postville.

While Mr. Moellering did have the advantage of an extended secular education himself, he was a strong advocate of the education of youth.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evang. Lutheran church on Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. M. J. Harder. Interment was made in the Garnavillo cemetery.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. Henry Meyer and Mrs. Frank Lauder and Mrs. Claude Callahan of Albert Lea, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer, Ora and Victor, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Huebner, Arthur Berns, R.
