Clayton County Register, 22 Jan. 1936.

Mrs. Marie Hermine Stade, nee Rohwedder, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rohwedder, was born Sept. 10, 1884, in Clayton county near Garnavillo. In early infancy she was brought to God in baptism and made a child of God. As a young girl she received Christian instruction and was confirmed on April 10, 1898, in St. Paul's Lutheran church, Garnavillo, promising there her allegiance to her God and to her church. A promise which she also kept.

On January 21, 1909, she was united in marriage with Mr. John Stade. This union was blessed with five children, Almore, Harold, the twins, Lawrence and Clarence, and one daughter, Alice.

Together with her husband Mrs. Stade lived first on a farm near Garnavillo, for three years on a farm in Wagner township, for _ short time on a farm _____________, later on a farm near Farmersburg, and finally on the present farm at the edge of Farmersburg.

On Nov. 7, 1923, her husband was taken by death. This left Mrs. Stade with her young family to continue alone. They continued on the farm, and certainly the problems of a mother left with a young family are many and hard.

About two years ago, Mrs. Stade first began to show signs of her last illness. It was with a heavy heart that the children and sisters saw her labor with a beclouded mind. The hopes and prayers were that she might again overcome it. Several times the sisters took her to their homes with the hope that it might relieve her condition, but finally it was found necessary to take her to the hospital at Independence, still doing what under the conditions seemed best for her. Here she finally found her end. She died on the morning of January 17, having reached the age of 51 years, four months and seven days.

She leaves to mourn, her children, Almore Stade, Harold Stade, Lawence Stade and wife, all of Farmersburg; Clarence Stade and wife on a farm near Garnavillo; Alice Frey and husband of Wadena and two grandchildren; also her aged father, Mr. Frank Rohwedder of Garnavillo; five sisters and two brothers. One brother and her mother have preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Frauen Verein of St. Paul's church, Farmersburg, and also attended that church.
