Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Dec. 1912.
Hannora Kennedy was born in Limerick, Ireland, on May 01st, 1830, and was married there in 1849 to Cornelious Ryan. In 1851 they came to America and resided in New York for a few years, coming to Elkader in 1859 where the deceased has since made her home. Mr. Ryan passed away twenty-one years ago, and owing to feeble health for the past few years, Mrs. Ryan has made her home with her children, dying at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Adams, at Colesburg, on Wednesday, Nov. 11th, 1912.
She was the mother of twelve children, five of whom died in infancy. Of those living Mrs. Anna Grant and Clement Ryan, of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. D. E. Costigan, of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; Mrs. Wm. Adams, of Colesburg; Mrs. Jas. Canada and Mrs. Robt. Quinn, of Elkader, were in attendance at the funeral. She also had twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her remains were brought to Elkader on Friday to the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. F. Quinn, the funeral taking place Saturday morning at St. Joseph's church, where Requiem Mass was offered by Father Reilly, of Elkader, and Father Minogue, of Elkport, and Mrs. Eva Prouty rendered the beautiful hymn, "Face to Face."
Six of her grandsons acted as pall bearers and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery beside the remains of her husband.
