Martha A. Walker was born at Mosco, Livingston Co. N.Y., March 18, 1855. At the age of 18 she moved with her parents to Strawberry Point, Ia., where she resided until 1897, when they moved to Colesburg, Ia. In 1906 she and her husband moved to Marion, N.D., where they resided until her death at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 24th, 1912. On Dec. 12th, 1883 she was united in marriage to Wilbur Smith, to which union were born three children, Mrs. Edith Hammond, of Colesburg; Guy, of Marion, N.D., and Mrs. Stella Groth, of Cosy Nook, Canada. These, with an only brother, Mr. Walker, of Colesburg, and a multitude of relatives and friends, are left to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and true friend. Her only sister preceded her across the river, departing this life June 15th, 1894. The funeral was held in the Colesburg M. E. church, the pastor speaking from the words: "I say brethren, the time is short. Weeping may endure the night but joy cometh in the morning." Interment was made in the "Brown" cemetery.
