James J O'Brien

James J. O'Brien, son of Michael and Margaret (Ivory) O'Brien died at; his home in Cox Creek, Thursday, March 20, 1930. Although. ill for several months his death came as a shock to his family because he was up and around the morning of his death.

Mr. O'Brien was born and lived his entire life on the farm where he died at the period of sixty-four years.

Oct. 22, 1901 he was married to Miss Mary Stence of Elkader who with two sons and three daughters survive, Frank of Elkader, Geo. and Gertrude at home, Sister Mary Jerome of Mt. Loretta Dubuque and Ellen a student of Clarke College, Dubuque also two grandchildren, Dorothy Lavon and Edwin Francis one brother Jack O'Brien of Cox Creek and two sisters, Miss Nellie of Oelwein and Mrs. Austin Thyne of Volga.

Mr. O'Brien Was a man of absolutely unimpeachable character and a loving husband and father, a sincere and true friend. Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart church Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock.

The Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Taken of Elka-der, assisted by Rev. C. Cregain of Volga deacon Rev. Murtaugh of Edgewood sub-deacon with Rev. John Bowen master of ceremonies who also preached the funeral sermon. Charles and Junior Ivory cousins of the deceased were altar boys. At the conclusion of the mass Mrs. Marvin Behrens and Frank Quinlan sang Face to Face Mrs. Ed. Quinn presided at the organ. The pall bearers were: Floyd Dittmer, Jack McDermott, A. I. Moats, Jack McTaggaret, Leon Olinger and Robert Henry.

The huge concourse of friends' attending the funeral from the surrounding country and towns gave evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased and family were held. The relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were. Mr. and Mrs. J. O'Brien, Mrs. Geraldine O'Brien, Sister Mary Jerome and Sister Mary Regis all of Dubuque, Tom Fagan, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Flannigan of Monticello, Frank Uriell Jr. of Chicago Mr. and Mrs. Mike Stence of Elkport, Mr. and Mrs. R. O'Brien of Oelwein, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry of Greeley besides friends and relatives from all the surrounding towns and country.

His many friends extend sympathy to his beloved wife and children in their great sorrow and loss.
