Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Sept. 1912.
Peter Klink, son of Conrad Klink and his wife, Wilhelmina, nee Lott, was born Jan. 01, 1833, at Duedelsheim, Grand Dukedom, Hessen Darmstadt, Germany. As a young man of twenty years he came to this country and for a short time worked at his trade as cabinet maker in Buffalo, N.Y. From there he traveled westward to St. Louis, Mo., where he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Claus, Sept. 03rd, 1855. For the next seven years they made St. Louis their home, when in 1862 they came north and settled on a farm in Cox Creek township, Clayton County, Iowa, where they have lived ever since. Eleven children were born to them, of which two, Herman and Peter, died in infancy.
On September 03rd, 1905, the old couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They had the pleasure of seeing their children grow up as useful members of the community. It was a great shock to the old gentleman, when about three weeks ago, on Aug. 12th, death called his faithful companion from his side. Since then he was failing fast, continually wishing to follow his departed wife in the near future. His wish was granted Thursday evening, Sept. 05th, when he passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Lemka, where he had received the best of care from his children and relatives since his wife's death. He lived to be 79 years, 8 months and 4 days of age.
His departure is mourned by six daughters and three sons; Lena, Augusta and Otto, of Maynard, Iowa; Emma and Henry, of Chicago, Ill.; Anna, of Beldon, Nebr., and Louis, Louisa and Bertha, of Cox Creek township. He also leaves forty-two grandchildren, Eleven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Sept 07th, at the German church, conducted by Rev. Franke. Interment in the East Side cemetery.
