Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Sept. 1912.

Sarah Agusta Van Pelt was born October 14th, 1868, at Union, Ill., the daughter of John A. and L. A. Van Pelt.

When but seven years of age she came to Waukon, Iowa, to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. T. W. David, Mrs. David and Mrs. Van Pelt having been life long friends. She made her home with Mr. and Mrs. David until her marriage to John R. Bayless, which took place August 17th, 1892. To her foster parents she was as an own child, every care being spent upon her, and she in return looked upon them as a loving child would upon her own parents, each bestowing love upon the other.

Three years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bayless moved to Elkader, which has since been their home. Deceased has been a patient sufferer for some time, but only recently did her sickness appear alarming, which caused her death Saturday morning at two o'clock. She leaves to mourn her early departure, besides her husband, two children, Marguerite and Ruth, ages 13 and 5 respectively, also her mother, Mrs. Van Pelt, and her foster mother, Mrs. T. W. David, of Waukon, besides two brothers and other relatives and hosts of friends. Mrs. Bayless was converted when eighteen years of age and immediately united with the First Baptist church of Waukon, from which she received a letter of transfer to the First Congregational church of Elkader, of which she has long been a faithful member.

The funeral was held Tuesday at two o'clock, Rev. R. G. Heddon of the Congregational church officiating, the services being held at the house. Interment at the East Side cemetery.

(A card of thanks was signed by: Jno. R. Bayless and family, Mrs. L. Van Pelt, Mrs. T. W. David and H. C. Van Pelt.)
