Elkader Register, Thur., 08 Aug. 1912. Farmersburg column.
The burial of another old settler of Farmersburg occurred on July 30th viz. Mrs. L. M. Huntington, wife of Simon Huntington, who was buried here on July 26th, 1911; and mother of Eliza Huntington, who was buried in the Farmersburg cemetery in April of 1911. They were the first settlers in Windsor, now Farmersburg, coming here in 1856. The Huntington's old home, the first structure, still stands, in which C. K. Huntington, a son, was born in 1860. The death of Mrs. Huntington leaves only the two sons in the family C. K., above named, of Lincoln, Neb., and E. C., of 2245 Knapp St., St. Paul, both of whom accompanied the remains of their mother from Windom, Minn., on Tuesday, July 30th. Mr. Huntington Sr., and E. C., the oldest son, together with Norman Hamilton, a surveyor, helped to lay out the cemetery, where he now sleeps.
Mr. and Mrs. Huntington were married at St. Albans, Vermont, in 1849. Mrs. Huntington died on July 27th at the age of 86 years and one month and throughout her life was a consistent Christian woman and passed over the dark river to meet her loved ones in the full belief of the Christian religion.
Rev. James B. Bird, of Monona, officiated at the home of W. Q. Adams and at the grave. His beautiful prayers and words of consolation to "the boys" were deeply appreciated by them. C. E. Huntington and the Adams boys were school mates and students of Senator Everall before he enlisted in the Civil War and it was a pleasure to E. C. to have the Senator for one of the pall bearers at each of the burials above mentioned.
