Elkader Register, Thur., 18 July 1912. Wagner column.

Mrs. Ingebor Olson Sorum died at her home in Wagner township, on Wednesday morning, July 10th, 1912, at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Olson, the subject of this sketch, was born in Numedal, Norway, June 17th, 1827, and in the year 1846 she left Norway and came to this country. She has had her share of pioneer life. Soon after coming to this country she worked for awhile in the west, on what was then the very frontier of civilization but just where, the writer is unsure. It was among the indians on a reservation, if I remember rightly, and regret very much that I have no data or memorandum about her western life. It was there that she got acquainted with her husband, Sarney Olson, who was also employed in Government work out there. She stayed there several years and in 1850 she was married to Mr. Sarney Olson, one of the early settlers of this township. From 1850 to 1857 they lived on a farm east of St. Olaf and, selling out, moved to Wagner township in 1867, which was their home until death, Mr. Olson dying eleven years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Olson were among our well known settlers and many there are among us who knew them well as good friends and neighbors and their family of four children, Annie, now Mrs. Ole Knutson, of Clear Lake, Iowa; Caroline, now Mrs. H. Bergan; Ole, who lives on the old home place and who to the last has always taken care of his parents and has done his share in making their last days as comfortable as possible; and Nellie, the youngest daughter, who lives at St. Olaf and was marred to Henry Ronquist, who died several years ago. One daughter, Dorothea, their first born, died in infancy. Mrs. Olson enjoyed good health until sometime ago when she had a stroke of paralysis, but got better. Sunday morning she had another stroke and lingered on till Wednesday when she passed away and on Friday was laid to rest in Norway cemetery beside her husband. Her long and useful life was ended. She leaves besides four children, thirty-one grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren to mourn her loss. Rev. Arveson conducted the funeral services at the home and church.
