Elkader Register, Thur., 21 Mar. 1912. Monona column.

Orrin Dunning Hopkins began life at Lamoille County, Vermont, on Sept. 10th, 1828, and died Monday, March 4, 1912, after an illness of several weeks, the best of care being given him by his family, but to no avail. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Cambridge, near where he was born. On March 18, 1852, he was married to Miss Phebe Wells, who had been a school companion, having been reared in the same neighborhood. At once, after their marriage, the young couple started west to the new state of Iowa, locating on a farm near Luana, where they lived for nearly sixty years. Had the deceased lived until March 18, they would have rounded 60 years of married life together. Twenty-two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins retired from the farm and came to Monona to spend their declining years. Of their three children, one daughter died in childhood. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Russell and Mrs. F. J. Daubenberger, who were at his bedside at the time of his death; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; he is also survived by two sisters and one brother who reside in California, and a sister, whose home is in Texas. Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30, Wednesday afternoon, March 6th, conducted by Rev. James B. Bird. Burial in the Monona cemetery.
