Elkader Register, Thur., 01 Feb. 1912. Volga column.
Miss Iva McMullen was born at O'Neill, Nebr., Dec. 19, 1891. At the age of 9 months her father was taken and she, with her mother, brother and sisters, moved to the home of her grandfather, Jno. Durland, near Volga City, Iowa. When eleven years old she moved with the family to Arlington, entering the public school, but on account of failing health was compelled to give up her last years work in school.
Iva was a consecrated Christian girl, uniting with the church at the age of 13 years, and was very active in her church life, being prominent in Christian Endeavor work.
She lived an unselfish life, mindful at all times of the interests of others, full of hope and cheer, which made her a favorite among her companions. Three years ago her health began to fail. Medical aid was sought but of no avail. Physicians could give no encouragement but, during the three years of her affliction, she was patient and hopeful and was never heard to murmur, but when asked about her health would say "I am better."
She was called from this life Jan. 28th, 1912. She leaves a mother, one brother and four sisters and a multitude of friends to mourn her loss.
The funeral was held at Arlington Wednesday morning, interment at the Volga cemetery.
