Mrs. Ann Cortis died at Monona, Nov. 26th, 1892, aged 60 years, 6 months and 13 days. She was born in Essex county, New York, May 1_th, 1832. Her maiden name was Ann Smith. With her parents she came west in 1850, residing in Farmersburg township, this county. In 1854, she was united in marriage to A. M. Cortis. By this union there were five children, three of whom are living, Mrs. Janie Walker, residing at Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. F. H. Howard and Mrs. Dave Egbert, residing at Monona. A brother, Joshua Smith also resides at Monona. They resided at National, where Mr. Cortis was in the dry goods business, then at Hardin for a couple of years, coming to Monona 14 years ago. Mr. Cortis died two years ago last April. The funeral occurred at the residence on Monday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Smith, of the M.E. church, and was largely attended by citizens and friends of the family. Burial at the Monona cemetery.
