Elkader Register, Thur., 17 Nov. 1892. Garnavillo column.
Died, at his home in Clayton township, on Thursday, Nov. 10th, William D. Becker, son of Casper Becker. Deceased was born in this county on Feb. 20, 1860, and was therefore nearly 33 years of age at the time of his death. He was a bright, active, young man, the staff and support of his aged parents. He took an active part in the social events in his neighborhood, and was a leader among the young people of Clayton township. An active democrat from principle and education, he was instrumental in winning his township into the ranks of democracy. When Gov. Boies recently visited this place, William was the leader of the young democrats who escorted the Governor from Clayton. On this occasion he took cold which culminated in peritonitis and despite the heroic efforts of his parents, and the best medical skill, he soon closed his eyes in death. William will be missed. He was a young man whose example might safely be followed. His remains were buried at the Catholic cemetery on Saturday, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends from all parts of the county. His brothers, Joe, Henry, Herman and John being summoned by telegraph, were present to pay the last tribute to the departed. May he rest in peace.
