Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Nov. 1892. Garnavillo column.
Died, at New Bremen, Ohio, on Monday, October 24, Mrs. J. H. Kuenzel of this place. Deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, May 23, 1831. She emigrated to this country in 1850, coming to New Bremen, O., where in 1852 she was married to Mr. Kuenzel, her surviving husband. They soon left their old home and came to Clayton Co., where they lived ever since. The fruit of this long and happy union was ten children, two of whom have preceded their mother in death. Her remains were brought here on Wednesday and were buried on Thursday in the new cemetery. The funeral was perhaps the largest ever held here and shows the universal esteem in which she was held. The display of floral offerings was magnificent. Rev. Dickhoff performed the simple and beautiful services at the grave and pronounced an eloquent eulogium at St. Paul's church. Our weak pen is inadequate to the task of writing a suitable tribute to the departed. She was a true woman in the best sense of the word. A fond wife, who found her greatest joy in the bosom of her family upon whom she lavished all the rich endowment of a Christian life. Careless alike to the pomp and display of the world, she wrought secretly many of her Christian virtues and many live to bless her memory. Her life was a beautiful example of what a Christian ought to be. And when she saw the end approaching she felt an indescribable longing to see again the scenes of her early life. There in the same room where 42 years before she plighted her faith and entered upon her wedded life she breathed her last, and rendered unto him who gave it her immortal spirit. May she rest in peace.
