Elkader Register, Thur., 16 May 1889.
Yesterday forenoon death came to the relief of George Stich who has been a sufferer from consumption for the past year.
Deceased was born in Bavaria, in 1826, and grew to man's estate in that country. He served a term of enlistment in the army of his native country, at the close of which he came to the United States. In 1853 he came to Clayton county and located near Littleport, where he ran a saw mill for several years. He then moved to Decorah, where for many years he followed the occupation of a miller, finally going to Dakota where he took up a homestead and farmed. Here his first wife died, and he returned to Iowa. About five years ago he was married to Mrs. Louis Reuther, of this place, who survives him. Since his second marriage he has resided in Elkader, and up to the time he was taken sick, ran a billiard hall in the rooms under Lamm's store. He leaves two sons and a daughter by his first wife, together with a widow to mourn his loss.
He was a quiet, uncontentious man, but of a social nature, and had a host of friends, who will regret to hear of his death, and who will extend their heartfelt sympathies to the mourning relatives. His remains will be taken to Decorah for burial.
