Mrs. Phoebe Broker died Saturday, September 22, 1888, at her home in Volga, aged 69 years, 1 month and 24 days. She was a native of England and came to America in 1850. She was married to Thomas broker May 3, 1851. Mrs. Broker was a woman loved by all who knew her. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Alderson, of Strawberry Point, Mrs. James Crain and Miss Lizzie, of Volga, to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. The funeral occurred Sunday at the M.E. church and was largely attended. Rev. David Jewel conducted the services. The remains were interred in the Volga cemetery. The sympathy of their many friends is with the sorrowing daughters, but their mother has gone to her reward.
