Elkader Register, Thur., 24 May 1888.
At the family residence, in Highland township, May 17th, 1888, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Peterman, of cancer of the breast, after a long sickness, during which she bore her sufferings with Christian resignation.
Mary Sulton was born in Ripley county, Indiana, March 20th, 1833, and was consequently 55 years, 1 month ad 20 days of age. On January 1st, 1851 she was married to Daniel Peterman, and in 1853 she came to Clayton county with her husband, settling first near Elkport, and afterwards, in 1856 they removed to Highland township, where her death occurred. She leaves an aged husband and eight grown children to mourn the loss of a loving wife and kind mother.
Mrs. Peterman was highly respected by all who knew her, and her death will cause profound sorrow to those neighbors and friends among whom she has lived so many years.
The funeral occurred on Saturday last, her remains being laid to their final rest in the cemetery in Illyria township, Fayette County. The family have our deepest sympathy in this great hour of sorrow.
