Elkader Register, Thur., 24 May 1888.
A card from Mederville informs us of the death of George Brinkhaus, which took place at his home in that village, Monday morning, after a brief sickness. Mr. Brinkhaus was born in Cox Creek township, November 24th, 1855, and was consequently in his thirty-third year at the time of his death. Just in the prime of life. He was reared to manhood in his native township and has always been closely identified with its progress. In 1877 he came to Elkader and learned the cabinet maker's trade in the shop of H. C. Gotewohl, working at the trade for three years, after which he returned to Cox Creek township, and, with his brother opened a general store at Mederville, which business he continued up to the time of his death. He was married in 1881 to Miss Mary Wisterich, who with two children survive him. All who knew George Brinkhaus respected and honored him. He was always strictly honest in his dealings, and pleasant and neighborly with those surrounding him. The funeral took place yesterday morning at ten o'clock, and was very largely attended, a number being present from this place.
