Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Sept. 1887.

At the residence of Rev. Ole Valdeland, in Marion township, on Tuesday evening, September 27th, 1887, occurred the death of A. S. Thorvig, after a lingering sickness with consumption; aged 31 years.

Deceased was a native of Norway, but for a number of years has resided in Clayton County, and taught school in Marion and Wagner townships. He was a good teacher, well educated, and commanded the confidence and respect of all who knew him. He was married some time ago to a daughter of Ole Evenson Glessner [sic], who with two young children is left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.

The funeral will take place to-day at the Lutheran church in Marion township., and will undoubtedly be largely attended.

Amund S. Thorvig is buried in the Norway cemetery with his wife Jorand 'Jennie' nee Glesne (died 1891) and their two children Martha Helena Thorvig (1886-10/08/1899) and Solan Oliver Thorvig (5/22/1887-unkn). Church records record Solan's baptism in July 1887. All share a common gravestone.
