Elkader Register, Thur., 14 July 1887. Volga column.
Miss Luceba Gray, daughter of Randall Gray who resides near John Paddelford's place on the county line, died on Saturday, aged 20 years, and was buried in the Volga City cemetery on Sunday. She had been in a melancholy mood for some time and in some way obtained a dose of strichnine which she took on Saturday morning, and in less than an hour was a corpse. She was conscious to the last and said that no one was to blame but herself, and had she known how she would suffer would not have taken the poison. She was engaged to be married in August, and her wedding outfit had been prepared, in which she was buried. It was a sad shock to her aged parents.
