Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Jan. 1887. Garnavillo column.

Died on Jan. 11, 1887, Leroy, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gossman. The tender bud thus early nipped had reached the age of 6 months. The remains were buried on Friday. The stricken parents have our sympathies.

Note: Parents Fred & Caroline, may have had another son named Leroy, who died in 1887 - her obituary states 3 of her children died in infancy, and there are 3 stones in the Garnavillo cemetery: Leroy 1884-1884, George 1891-1891 & Harold 1901-1901 all clearly engraved son of Fred & Caroline. No extant 4th stone for the Leroy named in the above obituary with a DOD in 1887. Researchers may want to investigate further. It's also possible that the dates for Leroy 1884-1884 have been incorrectly read on the stone. Surname spelling on the stones = GOSSMANN
