Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Jan. 1887. Volga column.
The death of Mrs. Austin Campbell was quite a severe shock to our community, where she has lived for a number of years, and where she has so many friends. It caused a feeling of sadness to all.
Nancy Viola Campbell was born April 13th, 1856, at Taylorville, Iowa, and was therefore nearly 31 years age at the time of her death. She was married to Austin R. Campbell, June 30th, 1873, and since have resided at this place. She leaves four children, the eldest of whom is 10 years and the youngest but a few days of age, a heart broken husband and numerous friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. Campbell was a kind, Christian lady, and her loss will long be felt in this community. The sympathy of all go out to the husband and motherless children. The funeral occurred on the 14th, and was largely attended. Elder Whitford preached the funeral sermon.
"God's plans like lillies pure and white unfold,
We must not tear the close-shut leaves apart,
Time will reveal the calyxes of gold;
And if thro' patient toil we reach the land,
Where weary feet with sandals loosed may rest,
When we shall fully know and understand. I think that we will say, 'God knew the best.'"
