Elkader Register, Thur., 22 July 1886. Volga column.

Died, July 17, 1886, Ruby, infant child of C. B. and C. A. Phillips, aged 7 days. We carried the little casket to the bedside for the fond mother to take the last look upon her dear one, and press the last fond kiss upon the little sleeper as it lay among the flowers, and heard her question, "O, why must it be taken."

My loved ones, your little one is gone,
But stay the falling tear;
Thank God your babe is sheltered safe,
From storms it would meet here.

Naught shall it know of scorching heat,
Of storms and winters cold;
But this the bud you admire
Will perfectly unfold.

Sweet bud of promise in that home
No cold winds e'er there blow,
She is fairer than our eyes have seen
And shall in beauty grow.
