Elkader Register, Thur., 08 Apr. 1886.

Died, in Garnavillo, on Tuesday, March 30, of consumption, Mr. Carl Schaal, at the age of 23 years. Mr. Schaal was born in Glesin, Mecklenburg, Germany, and came to this country about two years ago. He worked at his trade, a tailor, in Chicago until the dread disease had so far advanced as to disable him for work. He joined his parents in Garnavillo shortly before Christmas and remained with them until he died. The remains were buried on Friday, Rev. Somerlad officiating.
