The funeral services for Thomas H. Laity were held at the home Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, pastor of the M.E. church. The pall bearers were: John Tinker, Fred Betts, Frank Conners, Fred E. Davis, George Opperman and Winnie Barnes. Interment took place in our cemetery.
Thomas Henry Laity was born at Ve Grande, Ill., June 28, 1854. He was one of a family of seven children, two sisters, Mrs. Esther Middleton of Manchester, Mrs. Jennie Daniels of Elizabeth, Ill., three brothers, William of Scales Mound, Ill., James of Minneapolis, Kansas; Richard of Strawberry Point and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ripper and a brother, John, who preceded him in death.
In March 14, 1875, he was married to Miss Ida Goldsborough at Apple River, Ill., who preceded him in death, Feb. 19. 1920.
Mr. and Mrs. Laity spent most of their married life farming near Strawberry Point until 1908 when they retired and resided in Manchester until the fall of 1910 when they moved to Strawberry Point where he has lived the past twenty-one years.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Nerva) Alderson of this place, One son Bert of Canistota, S.D. A son George of Tulaire, S.D., passed away Feb. 19, 1918. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Mrs. Earl Jamisch of Montrose, S.D., Mrs. A. G. Van Woert of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Alfred Weig and Merle Alderson of Strawberry Point, Thomas Laity of Dundee and three great-grandchildren.
On Monday night, Oct. 05, 1931, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque after a brief illness which he endured with remarkable patience surrounded by his family in the fullness of years, he peacefully died.
He was a kind and indulgent husband and father. A true man and a worthy citizen has gone from our midst.
