Clayton County Register, Thur., 08 Oct. 1931.

Strawberry Point: The death of Dr. I. P. Howard occurred Thursday evening after several months' illness. Funeral services were at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. Troyer, pastor of the Congregational church. The A.F. & A.M. had charge of the service at the grave. Dr. Howard had endured many days of suffering and while his recovery was doubtful it was a shock to his wife who was ever ready to do everything for him. Dr. Howard was a friend to everybody and often times went to care for the sick patients when he was not able. When he was so he could not go out people would come to the house. It is hard to lose a good man but his good deeds will never be forgotten. The entire community extend their sympathy to bereaved wife and son, brothers and sisters.

Dr. Howard was born in Fayette County in 1875. He attended the Strawberry Point public school and was graduated with the class of 1893. He attended the University of Iowa and took a course in medicine at the Hahnemann Medical school at Chicago, being graduated in 1897. For five years he was associated with his brother, Dr. F. H. Howard, in the practice of his profession here. In 1902 he was married to Miss Jennie M. Nace of this place.

Retiring from active practice, he purchased a drug store which he operated for a number of years here. After disposing of the store, he went to Chicago where he took a special course in medicine, then returned home where he resumed his practice.

He is survived by his widow and a son, Donald, a teacher in the Lamont Consolidated school, and four brothers and two sisters, Dr. Fred H. Howard, Strawberry Point; John and Charles, West Union; ____ O______, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Mc____, Randalia, and Mrs. Abbie C____, A____, Neb.
