Clayton County Register, Thur., 24 Sept. 1931.
GARNAVILLO: Rosalia Wirkler, daughter of Christian Wirkler and Lydia Ummel Wirkler, was born December 11, 1846, at Markhof, Granduchy of Baden, Germany, and died Sept. 16, 1931. She immigrated to America with her parents and two brothers and two sisters (one of whom was born at sea) in 1852, and landed at Guttenberg, Iowa, on July 4th. One brother, Christian, came to America some years later, and one brother and sister were born in America.
They lived in Jefferson township for a time and then moved to a farm two miles West of town. At the age of four years she lost her power of speech and hearing through a meningitis illness. After the death of her mother in 1888 she made her home with her sister, Laura Maurer, and family for many years. Then for a number of years she made her home with her brother, Joseph Wirkler, and family. The past eight years, or so, she has made her home with her niece, Mrs. J. H. Kaiser, and family, where she peacefully passed away after about three months of illness, on Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock, Sept. 16, 1931, at the age of 84 years, nine months and five days.
She leaves to mourn her departure, one brother, Christian Wirkler, 92 years of age, living at Los Angeles, California, and one sister, Paulina Kaiser, 79 years of age, living at Monona, Iowa, besides many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday p.m., Sept. 19, at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Rev. M. J. Harder, pastor, and interment was made at the new cemetery.
