Clayton County Register, Thur., 23 Apr. 1931.

Michael McTaggart, a venerable pioneer of the Cox Creek settlement, died on Wednesday, April 15th, at the partriarchial age of 95 years.

His death was due to the infirmities of old age. He was confined to his home the past two years, his only regret being that he was unable to go to mass. Only one week he was forced to remain in bed, where every attention was given him by loved ones, when the angle of death called him to the reward of a well spent life.

Having received the last rites of the Catholic church of which he was ever a devout member, he peacefully passed away. His last hours were spent in prayer and his happy death was a consolation to the bereaved loved ones, who deeply feel the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.

Mr. McTaggart was born in Lodenderry, Ireland, in the year 1836. He came to Boston when 39 years old and one year later came to Clayton county. On June 14, 1877. he was married to Miss Nellie Carr by the Rev. Father Coyle. They settled on a farm in Cox Creek township where their entire married life was spent and where they reared their large family. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1927.

They were the parents of fourteen children, one dying in infancy, all the rest survive, who with his faithful companion, who for fifty-four years was ever at his side, sharing his joys and sorrows, are left to mourn his passing. But she eagerly looks forward to the day when they will be reunited. Their reward in heaven will be great for they did not shirk their duty in life for the pleasures of the world, and there they will watch and pray till all the loved ones are gathered home.

The names of the children are: Mrs. Anna Reimer, of Littleprt; Mrs. Eunice Cassidy, of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Mary Funk, of Edgewood; Mrs. Martha Morris, of Strawberry Point; Michael McTaggart, of Mederville; William McTaggart, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Lucy Hefel, of Buena Vista; Thomas McTaggart, of Walt Hill, Nebr.; Robt. McTaggart, of Edgewood; Mrs. Kathryn Peters, of Fairbanks; Joseph, John and Louis McTaggart, at home; 40 grandchildren and other relatives and a large circle of friends. The funeral was held from the Sacred Heart church at Cox Creek, Friday morning, with the Rev. Father _owan of Strawberry Point officiating at the church and the grave. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: William Mullen and wife of Anamosa; Mr. and Mrs. John Carr, Mr. and Mrs. James Carr and Daniel Kenna, of Lamont; Mrs. John Peters, of Fairbanks.
