Clayton County Register, Thur., 23 Apr. 1931.

Mrs. Sarah McDermott, who passed away in Chicago, Ill., Saturday, April 18, was brought to Elkader Tuesday for burial in St. Joseph's cemetery, by her daughter, Mrs. Mary Galett.

Mrs. McDermott was born February 2, 1852, In Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dunn, and when still a very young child came to this country and to Clayton county with her parents. She grew to young womanhood on what is now known as the James Dunn farm. She was united in marriage with Patrick McDermott here in St. Joseph's church by the Rev. Father O'Beirns and spent the early part of her married life on the McDermott farm near the Colony.

About thirty years ago she removed to Chicago, where she made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Mary Galett, where she passed away, after an illness of only four days, though she had been ailing for some little time. She was the last of the Michael Dunn family, well known in this vicinity. Her passing is mourned by her daughter, Mrs. Mary Galett, of Chicago, and one son, Thos. McDermott, of Canton, S.D. One son, James McDermott of this place, and her husband preceded her in death,

Mrs. McDermott was a devout member of the Catholic church, first here in Elkader and in Chicago, after her removal there. It was her wish that her remains be brought back to Elkader for burial, for she always retained a warm spot for Clayton county and Iowa.

Services were held in St. Joseph's church here Tuesday morning and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating. Pallbearers were all acquaintances of the deceased: F. J. Liddy, J. F. Steen, D. E. Gleason, Thos. Donohoe, F. J. Nugent and F. J. Uriell. Mrs. Galett is thankful for the courtesies extended her by old friends during her short sojourn here.
