Mrs. Friederecka Wilhelmina Buckman, nee Otting, was born on Nov. 13, 1842, in Hanover, Germany. When 12 years of age she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Otting, to America, being 13 weeks on the ocean. They landed at Baltimore and from there went to Cincinnati, Ohio. The next spring they came to Clayton county, Iowa.
She was confirmed in the Garnavillo church by Rev. Stockfield. On Sept. 30, 18__, she was united in marriage to John Buckman, by Rev. F. W. Seifert. This union was blessed with five children, one daughter, Mahali, who preceded the mother in death.
The father died on April 13, 1917, at the age of 80 years. Mrs. Buckman spent nearly 65 years on the farm in Farmersburg township, where she passed away Tuesday evening, April 7th, at the age of 88 years, five months and 24 days. She was up and around till Monday evening, April 6, when she complained of not feeling well. Deceased leaves to mourn three sons and one daughter: Fred on the home farm, Henry married to Lois Brownson of Farmersburg, William married to Anna Harnack of near Farmersburg, and Mrs. Emma Palas of Luana; one sister, Mrs. Justina Schulte of Clayton township; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at St. Paul's church of Garnavillo, Rev. Harder officiating. Interment was made in the new cemetery.
