The sudden death of Bernard Burlingame came as a great shock to his beloved family, to thousands of friends including the students of St. Joseph's school.

In every community there are special members whose excellent character traits endear them to all, and his was one of such a type. This youth served his God with singular devotion to duty, self-sacrifice and sincere piety, he took an active part as an alter boy and choir member in the church.

In his school he displayed so many ideals that he was admired and loved by his pastor, teachers and student body not only as a social member but a leader in class work, in the many organizations of the school and all athletic activities.

We feel a great loss to adequately express the undeniable merits of this young boy. He was honest, cordial, sincere and energetic. He was an example worthy of emulation.
