Clayton County Register, Thur., 29 Jan. 1931.

This community was greatly shocked to hear of the death of Mrs. Almeron Cook, nee Flora A. Atwood. Mrs. Cook was in her usual health, which hasn't been of the best for the past couple years, until about an hour before her death, which occurred about 4:20 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 1931, reaching an age of 75 years, one month and nine days, death being due to a stroke.

Flora Ann Atwood, daughter of Alexander B. and Sarah Jane Atwood, was born in Read township, December 14, 1855, being one of a family of six children. She received her education in the home school. On December 01, 1872, she was united in marriage with Almeron Cook of Elkader and this couple had the distinction of sharing life's joys and sorrows together for fifty-eight years. They began faming in Boardman township on the farm now occupied by their son, excepting two years in Wagner, moving to Elkader in 1903, which has since been their home.

To this union were born three children: Acahel A., Fayette A., and Orra; Acahel and Orra dying in infancy.

She was baptized in the United Brethren church, her Christian faith manifesting itself in her daily walk of life, her ever watchful care of her loved ones, even unto the end.

She leaves to mourn, her devoted husband, Almeron Cook, one son, Fayette A. Cook, one brother Alvah Atwood, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26th, at 2 o'clock at the home, conducted by Rev. Franke. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends which showed that the deceased was held in high regard by all who knew her.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Chas. Feller and Mrs. Rudy Muehlenthaler of Elgin, Mrs. Flora Eddins of Marquette, Mrs. Ruth Congdon, Mrs. Mary Williamson and Mrs. H. Peterson of McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. George Kriebs of Elkport, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barnum and Mr. and Mrs. John Christenson of St. Olaf and Joe Larson of Decorah.

The pall bearers were John Stoops, Frank Uriell, D. D. Murphy, John Ehrhardt, George Ehrhardt and Fred Soll.
