Clayton County Register, Thur., 11 Sept. 1930. Strawberry Point column.

Mrs. Willis Rowell passed away at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary E. Tracy, Saturday morning, following an illness from suffering with a cancer, which extended over a year. Mrs. Rowell's health had been poorly for a long time and she was advised by several physicians she consulted to enter a hospital. She entered the hospital at Iowa City in Sept. 1929, only to return to the home of her mother the following month. Her mother and sister, Miss Wilberta, who were her constant companions and gave her the very best of care. Mrs. Rowell being a lover of flowers, friends saw that her room was filled with their fragrance. She often expressed herself during her illness that everybody was so good to her. Her sufferings were intense but she bore them patiently and when friends visited her she greeted them with a smile. Hers was a beautiful life.

Mrs. Rowell's maiden name was Miss Golda Tracy. She was born at Strawberry Point, May 5, 1898. She was married to Willis Rowell, Dec. 23, 1919. She has always lived around here. There were five children born to this union, the eldest of which is 8 years of age and the youngest is one. They are: Lillian, Dorothy, Lyle, Wilma Jean and Loetta. In addition to her husband and children she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mary E. Tracy, two brothers and two sisters, Earl and Wilfred, Misses Wilberta and Florence, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services occurred at the M.E. church Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Elwick. Interment took place in the family lot beside her father, brother and sister, in our beautiful cemetery.

The death of this young mother is unusually sad. The group of five small children will sadly miss the fond care that can only be given by a devoted mother. No more will their troubles and wants be calmed by the soothing hand and the best friend they will ever know in life. Such care can only approximate the devotion found in the heart of a mother. The sympathy of friends is extended to the bereaved ones and the consolation they can offer is "Golda is at rest and won't have to suffer any more."
