Clayton County Register, Thur., 14 Aug. 1930.

Henry Koehn, who had been a resident of Elkader for forty-two years, passed away at the Moran hospital here Thursday morning, August 7th, 1930, at 7:50, following an illness of one month's duration, the result of complications.

Henry Koehn was born September 22, 1860, in Volga township and at the time of his death had reached the age of sixty-nine years, ten months and fifteen days. He was the son of Fred and Sophia (Sukow) Koehn and received his education in the county schools of his home township.

September 25, 1881, he was married in Cox Creek township to Julia Mentzel. To this union four sons were born, Karl, Oscar, Max and Arnold, the latter preceding his parents in death. Mrs. Koehn departed this life July 20th, 1928. The deceased is survived by his three sons, Karl of St. Paul, and Oscar and Max, of San Francisco, besides four brothers and two sisters, namely, John Koehn, of Gary, S.D., Wm. Koehn, of Guttenberg; Wm. Musfeldt, of Elkader; Albert Musfeldt of Calgary, Canada; Mrs. W. J. Moran, of Elkader, and Mrs. Robt. Bushkofsky, of Guttenberg.

Mr. Koehn first came to Elkader in the year 1876 to serve his apprenticeship to learn the blacksmith and wagon-making trade. After five years, in 1881, and in the year of his marriage, he settled at the Three Corners, south of town, where he operated, until 1893, a blacksmith and wagon shop. In 1893 he returned to Elkader with his family and this has been the Koehn home ever since.

Here in Elkader he was engaged in several different businesses, but his last active days at work were spent at his first trade. He served this township as Justice of the Peace for several terms and was still holding that office at the time of his death.

Mr. Koehn's long residence here in Elkader made him a familiar person in the community and he had won for himself a large circle of friends, who though they sorrow in his passing, know that he has gone to his rest.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, August 9, from the Evangelical church, of which he was a member and Interment was made in the East Side cemetery on the family lot, the Rev. C. H. Franke officiating.

Those from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Karl Koehn of St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Koehn and Mr. and Mrs. Bushkofsky, of Guttenberg.
