Clayton County Register, Thur., 14 Aug. 1930. Clayton column.

Nellie Mae McGill was born March 26th, 1898, at Fayette, Iowa, and passed away at the University hospital at Iowa City Aug. 5th, 1930. She was the daughter of John and Myrttle Petit. On Nov. 16, 1914, she was united in marriage to Roy Wallace McGill at Fayette, Iowa. to this union six children were born, who deeply mourn the loss of their dear mother. She had always made her home at Fayette, until the marriage. Then with her husband she came to make her home on a farm near McGregor, residing there until coming to Clayton April 9th, 1929. For some time she had been in poor health. With the advice of her home doctor and many others she left on July 15th for treatment at Iowa City, where she seemed to be doing fine, until Sunday, August 3rd. All that medical aid could do for her was done but it was God's will to take her to that heavenly home. She first complained of a headache, then a high fever began. It is believed by the doctors and nurses that a hemorrhage of the brain is the cause of her sudden death.

She was a home lover, taking all interest in her home and family. We can say the departed was a true, faithful wife and a dear, kind and loving mother. She leaves to mourn her loss a broken-hearted family, her husband and six children, Marguerite, Mrs. Geo. Frye, near Clayton, Frances, Kathryn, Hazel, Ray, Jr., and baby June Ellen, 13 months. Also her father, John Petit, two brothers, Willie and Carl, two sisters, Mrs. Eva Chase and Mrs. Jennie Herzman, and other relatives near Fayette. The body arrived on the early morning train Thursday and was taken to her home. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the house at 2 o'clock. Rev. James Sopko of Guttenberg officiated. Burial was in the Clayton cemetery. The pall bearers were Mrs. Gladys Seiffert, Mrs. Bernice Reinitz, Dorothy Frye, Dorothy Schultz, Irene Yohe and Franque Friend.
