Clayton County Register, Thur., 31 July 1930.

Mr. Martin Havil of Guttenberg died at his home Wednesday morning, after several months illness. Mr. Havil was born in Germany in 1863, and came to America when he was six years old. In 1884 he and Miss Freda Haronn were married and have been residents of Clayton County ever since. He leaves to mourn his passing: his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Niehous, four brothers, Louis, Fred, Herman and Charles, and also one sister. Rev. Emil Lehne officiated at the residence at 1:30 Friday afternoon, and the body was taken to Garnavillo, where Rev. Bunge conducted funeral services at the St. Peter's church. Interment was made in the Garnavillo cemetery.
