W. T. Woods entered Finley hospital several weeks ago for treatment. He underwent an operation Tuesday, July 08, and passed away Sunday morning, July 13th. He rallied from the operation and was doing nicely until Saturday, when he changed for the worse, gradually grew weaker until early Sunday morning, when he quietly passed away.
Walter Thulborn Woods was born on a farm two miles south west of Volga City, Clayton County, Iowa, on October 12, 1867 and his passing on July 13, 1930, brought him to the age of 62 years, 9 months and 1 day. He was the son of Charles and Emma Woods, and his entire early life was spent on the farm. On Feb. 12, 1891, he was married to Hattie Piper and to this union five children were born, all of whom are living with the exception of Russel, who passed away in infancy.
Five years ago Mr. Woods gave up farming and he and his family spent that winter in California. Upon their return they located in Volga City, which has been their home since. Mr. Woods leaves to mourn his death: his wife, two daughters, Alice of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Ruth McAlear of Chicago, two sons, Frank of Monticello, California, and Donald at home. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Eugene and George McAlear, and several cousins. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, July 16th, at 2:00, at the home. The services were conducted by Rev. A. B. Chamberlain, pastor of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev. J. R. Brown, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
Interment was in Hill Crest Cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved ones.
