Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 July 1930. Monona column.
On July 4th, Adeline Engelhardt, who was working at the Ed. Dickman home, near Garnavillo, rose to prepare breakfast. Kerosene was poured on the kindling and lighted. When she returned after some time the fire had apparently gone out, so more Kerosene was used. Flames leaped up and her clothing was set on fire. The burns she received were so severe that all hope was given up for her recovery. She departed this life at nine forty-five the same evening at the age of 19 years, 11 months and two days. She was born Aug. 02, 1910, near St. Olaf. She was baptized in the name of the Living God and in 1924 was confirmed in the Lutheran church of Monona and ever since has been a regular communicant at the alter.
She leaves to mourn her sudden death, her grief-stricken parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Engelhardt, one brother, Melvin, at home, and one half-brother, Edwin, and wife living north of Monona, and two grandmothers, Mrs. Henry Bentien and Mrs. Henry Engelhardt, of Monona.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 07, at Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. A. Daugs officiating. Burial was made in the City cemetery.
