Anna Mary Sheffert*, nee Berns, died at the home of her son Frank in Garber Wednesday, May 7th, at 7:25 a.m. She was taken sick the flu from which she never fully recovered, other complications of diseases setting in which confined her to her bed for almost two months when death relieved her of great suffering. All that loving hands and medical science could do was dome for her. At the time of her death all her children were present. The death of Mrs. Sheffert brings deep sorrow to all who knew her; she was a kind mother and true friend, always doing deeds of kindness for them. Her husband preceded her in death just nine months to the day.
Mrs. Sheffert was born in Volga township, Clayton county, Aug. 16, 1862, the daughter of Peter and Mary Berns and for the past sixteen years had been a resident of Elkader. February 18, 1882, she was united in marriage to J. F. Sheffert, of Garnavillo, and to this union four children were born: Mrs. Mayme Zapf, Garnavillo; Mrs. Minnie Winch, Littleport; Ervin, Monona; Frank, Garber. She also is survived by fourteen grandchildren, three brothers; Peter, Theodore and Henry, all of Garber; two sisters, Mrs. John Berse, Mrs. Tillie Nesher; two brothers, Frank and Herman preceded her in death. She was a true member of the Catholic church all her life and was comforted with the last blessings of the church.
Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church in Elkader on Friday morning, with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
