The people of this community were shocked Monday morning to hear that Mrs. Caroline Clinton had passed away at the home of her son, Fred, near Volga City. She had only been ill a few days and her illness did not seem serious until a few hours before her death. Her children and relatives have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

Caroline Nading Clinton died April 21, 1930, at the home of her son, Fred, one mile north of Volga City, from the effects of the flu. She had been ailing for fifteen months but her condition was not considered serious until just a few days before her death.
She was born Jan. 01, 1855, in Cox Creek township, the daughter of John and Margaret Nading. She received her schooling in the rural schools of Cox Creek township and on April 07, 1874, was united in marriage at Edgewood to Edwin E. Clinton. To this union eight children were born, one son, John, having preceded her in death. The other children are: Mrs. Wayne Pugh, Littleport; Chas Clinton, Ponca City, Okla.; Mrs. M. F. Whalen, Othello, Wash.; Fred, of Volga City; Will and George, Littleport; Ernest J., McGregor. She is also survived by two brothers, Wm. Nading of Dubuque, and William of Littleport.
Mrs. Clinton spent practically all her life in Clayton county with the exception of three years spent in Oklahoma. Funeral services were held by the Rev. C. H. Franke, Thursday, April 24, and interment was made in the Hillcrest cemetery at Littleport.
