Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Apr. 1930.

God in His mercy and goodness has called from time into eternity Mrs. Maria Louise Engelhardt, geb. Schimdt, on April 4, 1930. She was born on Nov. 14, 1850, in Anklam (Pommern) Germany and came to America with her parents at the age of ten years. Her parents settled in Garnavillo, where she attended school and was later confirmed. Jan. 09, 1867, she was united in marriage to Rudolf Engelhardt, then the young couple made their home on a farm in Wagner township, near St. Olaf, where she lived with her husband in happy union for twenty-six years. But death entered this family and took the husband and father Sept. 09, 1893, followed eight months later by the passing into eternity of their little daughter, Minnie, at the age of two years and six months. Five years after the death of her husband she sold the farm to her son John and moved to Farmersburg. The infirmities of her declining years becoming more and more noticeable, the remaining time of her life was spent in the home of her daughter and her son-in-law, Fritz Wilke, near St. Olaf. The time of her earthly pilgrimage was seventy-nine years, four months and twenty-one days. May she rest in peace and the eternal light may shine on her.

Those remaining to mourn for her are: Auguste, married to William Jones, Cresco, Iowa; Emma, married to Jeff Jones, Monona; George, married to Anne Meier, Luana; Louis, married to Anne Griffin, Luana; John, married to Rieke Drews, Luana; Martha, married to Henry Boller, Cresco, Iowa; Emilie, married to Fritz Wilke, St. Olaf; Arthur, married to Mary Olson, Limesprings, Iowa; Robert, married to Ella Faber, St. Olaf; Alma, married to Ewald Oelke, Alexandria, south Dakota; also thirty-eight grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Wm. Schmidt, St. Olaf, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Reka Engelhardt, of Monona.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon, April 07, Rev. F. K. Korte officiating. Burial was made in the old cemetery of Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center.
