Lena Sophie Schlee Krieg was born in Besandten Province, Brandberg, Germany, Jan. 10, 1872. At the age of 11 years she, with her parents and three brothers, came to the United States, landing at Elkport, Iowa, on April 1, 1883.
Here she grew to womanhood living with her parents on a farm near Elkport, Iowa. On Nov. 15, 1896, she was married to Gustave Krieg of Elkport. For thirty-three years they made their home on their farm in Elk township. To them were born two children who, with the husband, mourn her untimely death. The deceased was a home loving person, always enjoying the duties that occur in the home. In the month of May 1929, she fell on the cement floor in the cellar, bruising her right limb, which at that time seemed to get well under the doctor's care but which caused her death by infection on the morning of Feb. 24 at 8 o'clock, when she peacefully closed her eyes after six days of intense suffering.
She leaves to mourn her untimely death her husband, son Arthur, daughter, Carrie Perrinjaquet, six grandchildren and two brothers, Herman and Will Schlee of Edgewood. One brother, Otto, preceded her in death two years ago at his home in Rochester, Minn.; one aged uncle, Joseph Kuehl, of Littlport, besides cousins and other relatives and many friends.
The funeral was held from the farm home Feb. 27. The Rev. A. H. Meyer of the Wood M.E. church and his choir officiated. Burial was at the Musfeldt cemetery. the pall bearers were: Chas Plagman, Bob Fishel, Henry Bottleman, Will Shaw, and Chas. Krieg.
