Bennett O. Lange

Funeral services for Bennett Lange were held Monday, March 1, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Rev. James Allison officiated. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Bennett Owen Lange was born June 14, 1928, in Monona, Iowa, to Kenneth Virgil Lange and Marian Owen Lange. He passed away Monday, February 23, 2004, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa. He had reached the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 9 days.

He was baptized March 17, 1940, by the Reverend Marley Farnham in the Methodist Church at Monona, and was confirmed there June 2, 1940. Bennett attended the Monona Schools.

On February 4, 1951, Bennett was married to Darlene Schutte in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. Five children were born to this union.

They farmed in the Postville area all of their lives. Bennett was a hard worker and enjoyed farming. He liked to go camping with his family, dancing, and playing cards with friends and neighbors. Bennett was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He had served as a Director of the Production Credit Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet; a sister, Marjorie Bollman; a brother, LeAllen Lange; a brother-in-law, Allyn Wirkler; and his father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Ruth Schutte.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; his children, Jeff (Marge) Lange of Postville, Julie (Arnie) Dahlen of Decorah, Steve (Vicki) Lange of Onalaska, Wis., and Joni Ohloff of Cresco, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Crystal) Lange, Brandi (Jeremy) Franzen, Pasha (Justin) Quaas, Aaron Dahlen, Aarik Dahlen, Matthew (special friend Amber Landsinger) Lange, Matthew Cassem, Nicholas and Megan Lange, and Candice, Collin, and Craig Ohloff; three great grandchildren, Trey and Morgan Franzen, Nathan Lange; two sisters, Peggy (John) Rothmeyer of Postville, and Diane (Gary) Ellis of Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Casketbearers were Jason Lange, Brandi Franzen, Pasha Quaas, Aaron Dahlen, Aarik Dahlen, Matt Cassem, Matt Lange, Nicholas Lange, Megan Lange, Candice Ohloff, Collin Ohloff, and Craig Ohloff. Honorary casketbearers were Wendell Meyers, Arnold Dahlen, Sr., Roger and Marilyn Christofferson, Jerry and Clair Heck, Yvonne Groth, and Darrell Henning.
