Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Mar. 1930. Monona column.
The community was shocked when it became known that Robert Miller's lifeless body had been found about two and one-half miles down the railroad track. Mr. Miller had gotten up at 4:30 o'clock and started a fire in the laundry stove preparatory to washing. After this was done he went for a walk, which he was in the habit of doing. When he had not returned at 6:00 o'clock, his wife sent the daughter, Laura, to grandfather Schierholz's to see if he was there. Not finding him others were notified and a search was made which proved useless.
Obituary.
When Geo. Montgomery and Hilmer Trappe, section men, went out on their handcar to work, they found the lifeless body of Mr. Miller. He was lying on his back, coat buttoned around him, cap over his ears, and mitten on his hands which were crossed over his breast. Mr. Montgomery at once notified the undertaker who in turn called the coroner at Guttenberg. The body was removed to the Schultz undertaking parlor where a coroner's jury was held and a verdict brought in "probable organic heart trouble." Mr. Miller had reached the age of 49 years. In 1901 he was united in marriage to Pauline Schierholz and to this union was born one daughter, Laura. For the past 24 years they had lived on a farm near Luana and it was not until this last November that they moved to their new home here in town, which was built the past summer.
He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife, and daughter Laura, one sister, Mrs. Henry Schrader, of Monona, one brother, William Miller of Pasadena, California, besides many other relatives and friends. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Miller and one sister, Mrs. Henry Schierholz, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:15 o'clock in the Lutheran church with burial in the city cemetery, Rev. A. Daugs officiating.
