Elkader Register, Thur., 02 Dec. 1920.

Charles Seeland Sr., son of Carl and Sophie (Rausch) Seeland was born in Gorn Mecklenberg Schwerin, Germany, October 8, 1851, and passed away at the Glawe Hospital Saturday, November, 1920, at the age of 69 years, one month and 12 days.

In 1872 he came to America and resided in Farmersburg Township. In 1877 he was united in marriage with Dorothea Fascher making their home in Boardman township. To this union were born eleven children, six children preceding him in death. He was a patient sufferer during his entire illness and had not given up hopes for recovery until the Angel of Death called him to the other world where there is no more suffering but joy and happiness forever. All that could be done for him was done but to no avail.

Mr. Seeland was an ambitious man during his entire life. He was also a faithful member of the Zions Lutheran Church of Clayton Centre, Iowa. He was a kind husband, father and grandfather and respected by all who knew him. His greatest pleasure in life was to do kind acts for his family and friends.

His death is deeply mourned by his wife and four sons and one daughter, Henry married to Caroline Glawe in Boardman township; Charles married to Sophia Kruse in Wagner township; Ella married to Chas. Gottschalk in Boardman township; William married to Sophia Gottschalk in Wagner township; Louis at home. Three brothers, John, of Froelich, Iowa, Fred of Cresco, Iowa, William of Farmersburg, Iowa, one brother-in-law, Fred Wahls, of Farmersburg, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Dorothea Fascher, fourteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. Interment was made in the Clayton Centre Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. Wiese.
