Jane Speed Little, daughter of Richard and Mary Smith Speed, was born in Columbia County, New York, October 12, 1832, and died November 23, 1920, aged 88 years, 1 month and 11 days. In 1856 she moved with her parents to Dyersville, Dubuque County, Iowa. On June 21, 1857, she was united in marriage to William Ebenezer Little. The first seven years of their married life was spent in New Vienna, Iowa. Then they moved to Putnam township, Fayette County, where they resided for sixteen years. They then came to Strawberry Point where she spent the remainder of her life. On May 14th, 1903, she was called upon to mourn the death of her husband. She is survived by one son, Lyman A., with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband and who with his wife did all that was possible to make her life comfortable and happy and attended her with loving hands during the weeks she has been in failing health. She was preceded to her long home by four children, Edwin S., who died November 7, 1890, Elizabeth J. Nov. 4, Mary E., October 6, 1871 and Millie Little Griffin, Jan. 27, 1902. Besides two grandsons, M. W. Little of Kansas City, Mo., Dale Griffin, of Omaha, Nebr., and three great-grandchildren. She leaves other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her death. With her passing the community gives up another of its pioneer's. Her life's work is ended, a work which stretches back thru long years of toil incident to the life of one who saw the state grow from a wilderness to its present fruitful fields. The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Kirby of the M.E. church and the remains laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery.
