Hulda Emma Sophia Kurth
Funeral services for Hulda Emma Sophia Kurth, 86, were held at 2 p. m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Rev. Harold O. Ward officiated pallbearers were Hulda's grandchildren with burial in church cemetery.
Hulda Emma Sophia Kurth was born March 3, 1900 in Luana, Iowa daughter of John and Johena Mahnke Kliefoth. She was baptisted and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana and received her education in Luana schools.
She was united in marriage to Elmer Louis Kurth January 21, 1920 at her parents home, and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. The couple farmed until 1950 west of Farmersburg in Wagner Township. They moved to Monona in 1950. Hulda remained in her home until 1983 at which time she came to the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Olaf and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Hulda Kurth died at Lutheran Home, Monona February 2, 1987.
Survivors include 2 sons, Glen of St. Olaf, and Calvin of Monona, 2 daughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Inez) Lenth of Monona and Mrs. William (Norma) Herreid of Praire du Chein, Wisconsin, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Alice Mueller of Elkader, she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in June 1, 1976, two brothers, four sisters, one granddaughter.
