Funeral services were held for Olga Ella Oelke, 82, Tuesday June 3, 1986, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkader. Rev. Robert Edwards officiated the service with burial in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery in rural Farmersburg. Pallbearers were Harold Seeland, Roger Thomas, Steven Clausen, Ray Zwanziger, Cletus Baade and Bud Hyde.
Olga Oelke was born December 14, 1903, in Clayton Center, the daughter of August and Minna (Reichkof) Mahnke. She was baptized January 24, 1904 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center by Rev. F. Linnenbuerger. Her family moved to Farmersburg where she attended school and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, March 21, 1918, by Rev. Fred Braum. In 1950 she was united in marriage to Hugo Oelke at Elkader. They ran the Oelke and Oelke store in Farmersburg for a number of years. Her husband died in 1955. She stayed in Farmersburg until 1965 when she moved to Elkader. Since February of 1966 she has resided at the Elkader Care Center. After a few days in the Central Community Hospital, Olga Oelke died Saturday afternoon May 31, 1986. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a 50 year member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a sister Mrs. Alice Monlux, Elkader, and a niece Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Gronlund, Palm Beach Garden, Florida.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two brothers, Elmer and Harvey Mahnke, and a sister Mahalia Dahlstrom.
