Elmer Louis Kurth

Monona: Elmer Louis Kurth, the son of Frederick Kurth and Louise Blum, was born on January 8, 1896 in Wagner Township.

As an infant he was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church of Farmersburg. After instruction he was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church of Farmersburg.

On January 21, 1920, he was united in marriage with Hulda Kliefoth, To this union four children were born; Glen of St. Olaf; Inez (Mrs. Wilbur Lenth) of Monona, Calvin of Luana, and Norma (Mrs. William Herreid) of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

They farmed in the area and moved to Monona in 1950.

During World War I, he served in the Armed Forces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters, one granddaughter.

Surviving him are his wife, four children, 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

He died June 1, 1976, in the Postville hospital at the age of 80 years, 4 months, 23 days.

Military services were held in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, on Friday, June 4, 1976, at 1:30 p. m. with Pastor R. D. Ehlers officiating. Mrs. Robert Evans provided the organ accompaniment to the service and accompainied the congregation singing of "What a Friend we Have in Jesus" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Pallbearers were grandsons, Gary and Gene Kurth, Bradley, Loren and Bruce Lenth, Kurtis and Randy Kurth, Tom and William Jr. Herreid.

Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Monona.
